Linux and ATI IGP

I have a Radeon Xpress 200M which reports the following vertex/fragment versions:

When I try to use ETM I get this:

And I get a black screen with no terrain rendered at all. So, I guess the problem is that fallback technique requires PS 1.1 and my card is just 1. Is that right?
The code works fine under Windows.

With the same hardware? If so, that proves that your card supports it. arbfp1 should be sufficient to run the ETM demo, I've run successfully with OGL/arbfp1 although that was in windows with a nvidia card that supports up to shader model 3.

I'd suspect this is a driver issue. OpenGL support has always been a weakness in ATI's drivers, and Linux drivers even more so (that's the reason why up to this point I've never even considered buying ATI...). If you haven't already, try to update the driver to the latest version.

The only other way you could try is to write some GLSL shaders, you might get those to work. Cg support for ATI isn't exactly phenomenal, either.


Edit:
On second thought, though: When you say it runs in Windows, do you mean Direct3D, or OpenGL? If it's Direct3D, then it may well be that it was actually using the fallback technique for your card, which means that it does not support shader model 2 and therefore does not support arbfp1/arbvp1 profiles for OpenGL. For ATi cards, however, there is no OpenGL profile below arbfp1 in Cg, which is why the fallback techniques wouldn't work in OpenGL. In that case you really have no choice but to write GLSL shaders.

Should I expect to have this problem in more decent ATI cards? Currently Im expecting to receive an HD2600.
I forgot to test OpenGL under Windows, ASAP I will report if it works. Also, just in case, I will try on another Linux (Ubuntu) with the same video hardware.

No, any ATi card supporting shader model 2 or higher should support the arbfp1 profile.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to say it still isn't fixed yet. I have a brand spanking new ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB and it still has issues. Here is the device capabilities.

The fallback technique is doesn't work for me either. I get the fatal message too.

I have HP Compaq Laptop with this specifications

Procesor:Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz

GraphicCard: ATI Radeon IGP 340m
OS:Ubuntu Linux 9.10

For first time i installed Linux,and i have problems with graphic.When visual effects are on normal i can`t normaly work windows are freezing.I changed visual effects on none and everythings fine but i can`t see notifications and some programs.
