3D Bodies acting extremely oddly?

I have set up a simple physics sandbox, and I'm having issues with how they interact with eachother and the ground. If I were to make a really heavy object, it would fling into the ground, start rotating and fling up out of the ground and then come down and do it again. Aside from this, if I put two 3D bodies on top of eachother even if the top one is lighter, if it's lighter but larger it will (vibrate?) off of it.

Does this have anything to do with restitution? As far as scene set up goes all the variables are set up similar to spacegaier's "First Steps" tutorial, it's just in my own framework.
