I'm currently developing a medieval strategy game ..
and plan on making minimal use of a physics engine to : simulate flooding , and destroy buildings.

Refering to destructible buildings :
How resource consuming is enabling physics for a 2k poly building?
How do I destroy the buildings in the first place?

help would be appreciated ..

You can build up buidlings by there pieces and connect them with breakable joints.

If you add enough force to the building the joints will break and the
pieces will fall together. I hope this gives you a first idea...

I'm not sure if this would be applicable to your game, but you could build parts of your building out of metal cloth, which is a type of cloth that, once deformed, holds it's shape. So it could be used to simulate a thin plate of metal bending/buckeling as a building broke.
