Nah, it's free. You can switch whenever you want, how many ever times you want. You can even do the whole level in the other dimension if you please (of course, it has to be possible to do so, generally the levels are such that you have to switch dimensions a lot to get around). Think of it like the portal gun in Valve. AFAIK, it's unlimited in it's use, but still there are some great puzzles they made with it. The same with the dimension system. There're a lot of cool puzzles possible, everything's dimension-enabled, the switches, moving platforms, everything. And now I'm gonna get busy with schoolwork again (argh) so I can think of some puzzle ideas while studying.

Sure, once you use a Checkpoint, it turns red, and you can't use it again. Don't worry, I'll try to place them in proper places in the levels. If you want to redo some part, then you can choose to not load from the Checkpoint, but from the start of the level, in the level-select menu.
