Center Space: turn based tactics with mechs

Post by Brakpan »

Hi guys,

I'm the lead developer of Center Space, which I am finally ready to announce.

Point your browser over to http://www.centerspace.co.za, or read on for more detail.

Center Space is a turn-based tactics game in which you command a squad of advanced combat robots, termed Mechanized Combat Units (MCU), which can tower twenty metres above the battlefield. Inspired by the 1996 PC game Missionforce: CyberStorm, Center Space allows deep customization of your war machines and includes an engaging science fiction storyline that examines the worth of a leader.

Center Space will include the following features:
  • 3 unique factions, each with different motivations, philosophies, MCUs and equipment.
  • Each MCU can be heavily upgraded with advanced technology and faction-specific weapons. Random terrain generation and multiple playable planets.
  • Multiplayer via LAN and over the Internet.
Center Space uses Ogre 1.81, libRocket, Lua, Bullet Physics, OpenAL and SQLite. I've been working on it for about a year - started last year May. I quit my full time job in May, so I started full time on the game in June, worked on it full time until the end of Feb, when I had to take a contracting job to make ends meet. I've employed contractors to help with the concept work, models, animations and GUI stuff, and am in discussions with a sound guy.

Feel free to ask me any questions!

Here are some screenshots:

Hi Brakpan, I like the look of this, I'm a big fan of RTS games.

Can you check that link to your website? DNS doesn't look like it has been setup for that domain.

I'm intrigued that you're using SQLite, I made a small post about my use of this fantastic library here http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic. ... 23#p488559 are you using it for a similar purpose?

What platforms will you be releasing on and when might that be? :D

Its a turn based tactics/strategy game.

Hmmm, please try again? Works for me and for my brothers in the UK. Can anyone else not see it?

Aiming to release for PC only for now, probably sometime in 2014. At the moment it only runs on Windows, but if we get Greenlit, I'll look into porting it to Linux/MacOS.

So... I'm releasing an alpha/demo of the game. Its more of an alpha than a demo. Please download it, and let me know what you guys think.

You will need OpenAL, the DirectX SDK, and the vcredist for VS2010. Windows only.
