Blender 2.49 export-noob needs help!!!!!!!!

Post by masfilip »

Hi,
I made few meshes and I want to get them into game Rigs of Rods. How can I get them to the game with material, which I can see in render? For example shiny materials, chrome and lot of this nice materials. Please help!

The 2.49 exporter only does basic material exporting I think. So you should probably upgrade to the latest exporter for 2.62 (from hartsantler) which does produce some more fancy material scripts. Alternatively you can pimp the exporter generated material scripts yourself, for which you'll need to study this. Really fancy stuff though can only be done using shaders which means opening up a completely new pandora's box I'm afraid :)

I never really found material export with old blender exporter very useful.
Just tweak the material files yourself.

For anything more fancy, or even for shiny objects to look convincing you will probably need shaders. Starting with pixel-precise phong shaders.
Shiny things with per-vertex lighting just look like crap.

An example:

or

Without shaders (fixed function pipeline) you only have gouraud shading. Phong can only be achieved with shaders.
