I haven't had a chance to jump back into Ogre recently - but this is the push I've been needing... Great work!!! I'll definately use him in my project - and the .blend file will be most useful to add a death animation :)

THANKYOU!!!!!

omniter wrote:_tommo_, if you plan to sell your game, I'm afraid you can't include the character model in it. :( I also won't be accepting payment for this model for commercial use. It's free, period. Cameo appearances would usually involve you making your own version of the character to appear in your game. Just to be clear, the license is not on the concept of the Sinbad character, but on the actual model. You can make references to Sinbad and have a picture / your own model of him in a commercial game, for example. It'd be awesome and flattering to see Sinbad in your game, but to be fair, I don't want to make any exceptions. Sorry. :(
No problem, i just thought Ogre deserved a quote in my game, but i'm aware that Sindbad as boss is a *big* piece of art, much more than a simple cameo... that's why i asked for permission in the first place :D

Nice!
have not checked it out yet but looks very sweet.

did you provide the art files or is it binary?
will a guy be able to swap weapons and equipment?
maybe add animations?

looks like it will be a fun addition to play with! :)

Hy Guys,

I expirence a strange thing with the blend file. The mesh is not shaded, neither in object nor in edit mode. I can only see it in a solid color (pink). Am i missing something? A setting maybe?

Using Blender 2.49b

Hope somebody can help me. I´d love to show this Ogre some new Tricks ;)

Oh yeah... I should probably fix the texture paths so people don't get confused, lol.
EDIT: Fixed.

Omniter, you are misunderstanding the nature of non-commercial.

For the CC-by-SA, it has to be attributed to you (-by) and nobody can legally directly sell your model (-SA / share alike). However if you add the non-commercial clause, it means that anything that might be commercial can not touch this model with a barge pole. So it can't be in anything on a demo CD for a magazine, or be in a Linux distribution whose contributors might get revenue from services. Because then they are inadvertently using (even totally indirectly and not really anything to do with their revenue) your model in a context that is commercial.

I really hope somebody takes this zombie and this skeleton warrior and puts together a game where waves of zombies and skeletons try to rush the player (as Sinbad).

Why not put together an official OGRE game? :D

Oh wow. Then it seems like the CC-by-SA fits completely with my original intentions. Can someone else confirm this? I will update the license if that is the case. Sorry about this mess guys.

It's in the Ogre 1.7 svn branch. :)
Wait for the release, if you don't want to grab it from the source repository.

And one more just informal-curious question. What software did you use to model and animate sinbad?

Omniter

First of all grate work, look really cool!

I think you need to released the blender file along with the Ogre mesh.

If you updated the character with new features in Ogre and Blender it would serve as a good learning tool for both commutes. Helping people to understand the best way that Blender can be used to create a game character as well as being the example of all the possible feature of a character deigned for Ogre. The possibility are endless.

Thanks

Hi trid_gamer,
Thanks! As jacmoe said, I did release the Blender file a while ago. And I'm not sure what kind of "new features" you're referring to, but it's unlikely that I will add to the model at this point. Blender and character creation tutorials are everywhere, and the sample I created shows people how to use the character in Ogre.

Cool Thanks, It was just that I have alway had a hard time learning the correct way to rig a character but, sorry I did not know that you had already released the model. As for the new feature's that I was referring to, things like sculpting and normal maps as well as shader trees. I am still new to a lot of Blender even some I have been using it for ages.

Warning: license discussion in this post! :)
omniter wrote:Oh wow. Then it seems like the CC-by-SA fits completely with my original intentions. Can someone else confirm this? I will update the license if that is the case. Sorry about this mess guys.
Well, here's a small note by STK about licenses, that they orientate on Debian's guidelines.(Debian is one of the major Linux distributions, Ubuntu is based on Debain for example.)

Here's a statement about debian-cc-nc license incompatibility.
It is clear that the licenses that contain a NonCommercial or a NoDerivatives restriction (e.g. Attribution-NonCommercial, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike, Attribution-NoDerivatives, Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives ) will never be able to comply with the DFSG because these violate basic principles articulate in the DSFG — specifically, DSFG 1 which requires that a licensee be able to sell copies of the work, DSFG 3 which requires a license to permit the making of derivative works and DSFG 6 which proscribes discrimination against any field of endeavor.
Also, here's a list of games not suitable for Debian. The reason usually being non-free media. the Creative Commons NC licenses are considered non-free by Debian.

I hope this helps. :)

He already said that the regular CC license was fine.
We know that the NC version is not compatible.

He asked for confirmation (check page 11) so qubodup was 'confirming' - or, at least, offering an alternative perspective.

Btw, IANAL, neither is qubodup, these are just our interpretations / perspectives based on (over-)exposure to Free Software games.
