Post Screen Filters Part 2

Postby supersuper » Sat Aug 13, 2005 1:34 am

A new thread started since the other one is getting to 7 pages.

Here are more filters (plus an extended PostFilters.cpp) to show more effects in Manuel's postfilter demo and library.

These were nicked from RenderMonkey demos, FX Composer demos, and from this place:
http://www.mauriziosciglio.com/demo4.htm. These are intended to show the power of post screen filters and to show Manuel has put a lot of time and effort in producing a really good library to make it easier for post screen filters to be created.

Please replace with this version of PostFilters.cpp and modify your resources.cfg to include the new directories (the glass, bloom, heatvision, and motionblur are included so delete them if you've already got them).

You will need r25 version of Manuel's code plus Dagon version - get from CVS.

You will need to resize the video to 200% (twice the size) to view the text to describe the filter.

And a video of the effects so far (there is one of Crashy's silhouette edge detection - which is not included - at the end of the video). The video is 360x288, but you can request a higher resolution (720x576) from me by PMing me. BTW, FRAPS is a good fps killer so don't worry about jerkiness of video.

Choose the normal version one (320x240): 7mb

http://sachinbadiani.kicks-ass.net/ogre/Demo%20Of%20PostFilters%20In%20BSP%20Demo.avi

OR 640x480: 13mb

http://sachinbadiani.kicks-ass.net/ogre/Demo%20Of%20PostFilters%20In%20BSP%20Demo%20HIGH.avi

Filters, but using BSP from the sample BSP in the pk3 file included with the Demo download. One issue to sort out though about BSP.

This http server is on my computer... in the future, I will transfer all videos to upload from my computer until I buy proper hosting space. If there is a power cut then download wont work.

Old TV Filter (This is impressive):

Normal Screen (reduced in size):

Old TV (reduced in size):

Larger version (1280x720) here: http://www.sachinbadiani.co.uk/ogre/Old%20TV.jpg

Video (reduced quality cos of divx - 500 kbs and half original recorded size):

The cool thing is that this filter has many parameters you can change... you can increase the interference so to achieve a snowy picture.

I must say the still screenshots really don't do these things justice. They look sooo much cooler in action.
I really didn't get what was going on with that Old TV filter from the image. Then I watched the demo vid of it in action, and

amazing. i can't think of a good word to describe it. All I can say is every day I see Ogre as an overlooked competitor for commerical engines. Yeah, I'm looking at your unreal3. The engine is definitely not the bottleneck to creating as good or better.
