CEGUI 0.6.0 Released!

Postby CrazyEddie » Thu Mar 27, 2008 2:39 pm

Hello there my Ogre buddies ;) I have come to spam! Here is a release statement I prepared earlier...

The Crazy Eddie's GUI System project (crayzedsgui on sourceforge.net) is pleased to announce the release of version 0.6.0 of the Crazy Eddie's GUI System library and associated CELayoutEditor and CEImagesetEditor tools.

Founded in 2003, Crazy Eddie's GUI System has consistently been one of the favourite choices for the serious game or multimedia developer needing a mature, stable and flexible rendered GUI solution. The library is open source, highly configurable and offers virtually unrivalled skinning opportunities via its "Falagard" XML skinning system. Crazy Eddie's GUI System library is released under the MIT license, thus offering the ultimate flexibility for all usage scenarios.

The 0.6.0 release comes some 16 months after the previous release, and marks the official return of Paul D Turner (CrazyEddie) as project leader and as a permanent member on the development team.

For more information about Crazy Eddie's GUI System see the project website at http://www.cegui.org.uk. Support requests for the library and associated tools, in the first instance, should be directed at the Crazy Eddie's GUI System project forums at http://forums.cegui.org.uk.

Hi CE, this is very good news. While reading the changelog I noticed, that the RenderTarget change is not in. Does it come with the next version or no ETA yet?

I also noticed that there don't seem to be many API breaking changes, so I assume transition from 0.5 -> 0.6 ought to be less a pain than 0.4 -> 0.5?

Great stuff. I noticed that the layout editor and imageset editor binaries have been updated too. And a quick check shows the annoying hidden object bug is gone :)

The CEGUI tools came a long way since 0.4 and are very useable now.

Hi,

Thanks for the kind comments so far :)

Just to clarify, this is kind of the CE's return release, and so does not contain much new code from CE - I mainly fixed the bugs that were listed on Mantis and did certain other updates.

@haffax:
The RenderTarget parts are not in this release (I'm still writing it!), but I can confirm they will be in the next release, and that will be out this summer (so no 16 month wait for another release).

Also, yes, the transition this time should be much more painless.

This is great, I moved away from CEGUI a long time ago now but looks like its time to take another look :)

The CEGUI forums have no natural place to respond to the new release (this is read only) so I'll do it here.

It's really great to see a new release of CEGUI as well as to see you back! It's a really, really excellent system, in so many ways. I've been using it now for perhaps three years and seen it progress to be better and better. The 0.5.0 release was a real watershed release in the way it introduced the Falagard widget system. I'm still amazed at how extensive the system is, and how sound the ideas behind how it's all designed are.

Just want to add my little bit!

Adopted CEGUI fairly early on in our system development (3 or so years ago) and have looked at other GUI's being developed by members of this community and have never moved away due to other systems not quite achieving what CEGUI does.

It's good to see CE back on the project, and nice to know that things are moving forward with some gusto again!

As developers of embedded products - it's not always easy to migrate the underlying system as quickly as we would like. Hence with our product we put out, we're usually a couple of steps behind. 1.2.5 now going out on our production products, testing 1.4.7 now in an embedded environment. CEGUI 0.6.0 will be on the list for migration over the coming weeks.

Once again many thanks.
