Landscape evolution visualization

Post by LeJackY »

Hi, I'm glad to show you a few screenshots of my research project into a French lab.

The main goal of the project is to visualize evolution of the landscape.
First, to achieve this goal, the software get Land-Use data, DEM, ortho-photo and other vector data (like edge) from a GIS.
I've developed a plug-in into a GIS to manage this step.

Secondly, the user can apply texture with different resolution and add vegetation (or any 3D models) to each land-use type by specifying density, spatialization (random, line ...), the LOD...

The software computes splatting map and geometry pages for visualize data in real time.

The user can travel into landscape, take high-polygonal screenshot (self-shadows, high quality meshes…) or record a movie for assessing his landscape evolution scenario.

Libs used are
- Ogre (of course)
- Qt
- Caelum for skys/clouds
- Paged Geometry
- GDAL (for r/w gis data)
- Libnoise
- QGIS

Thanks Ogre community !! :D :D

Nice work!
Did you plan any source code release for the DEM data import part ?

PS: Funny nickname ^^

Wow!

Couple of questions: Can you export the landscape generated into a 3D format? And, where do you obtain these orthographic landscape maps?

Cheers!

Seems that you couldn't get permission to release the source code? I have a need for a same kind of tool, but I have pretty little experience with gis software.

Can you point some resources for plugin writing?
