I'm trying to figure out how to smooth frames.
Let's say you're running your application with VSync on, and your fps alternates between 50 and 60.
the movie has eg. 24 FPS. So, no matter what you do, your frames won't be evenly spaced in time, and because of frame rate differences, you're going to have slight hiccuping of the video. No big deal, but it could be better.
The only solution that comes to mind is to use two textures. One for the current frame and one for the next, so at each frame you can blend these two textures by a certain factor. This method would be framerate independent.
I'm no video expert, so what do you think? Any better ideas?
