Animated Character Problems

I have modeled, boned, IK solved, skinned, and animated a character in 3dsmax8....but you'd never know it looking into the OgreView viewport. There are faint lines where there should be a fat robot, and they act sporadically when I scrub the animation slider.

I have speculations that Ogre isn't fond of IK solvers, but then again that's a total shot in the dark.

I'll attach images of the 3dsmax perspective viewport and the OgreView viewport. Hopefully someone else has run into similar problems.

note: ignore the psychedelic texture :P

Thanks

Do this test:

Select a single bone and assign all the object vertices to it with 1.0 weight value
Activate the wight color display
Hide all skel bones
Update the preview

Is the object displayed?

Thanks for the reply.

I gave the spine bone 1.0 weight control of all the mesh's verts.

It does display in the window now, just really small and hard to rotate around. In the image there that's as close as I can get to the mesh before it gets culled out.

Reset the XForm of the character mesh, search this forum for help with restting XForm on skinned characters

I'll give it a shot, thanks.

Ok, so here's what I did.

1) Took a fresh copy of the mesh into a file of its own, reset Xform.
2) Deleted old mesh from animated file and merged new one in.
3) Reset the Xform on the mesh again.
4) Skinned it to the bones.

The mesh in its own file without the bones/skinning info looks fine.

But still goes nuts when its skinned.

The OGRE origin point (I assume thats what that is) is way out in space.
Note: I've ensured that the character is standing directly over 0,0,0 in max.

Again, thanks for the help.

I would be very grateful.

You don't have an e-mail address posted in your profile and I don't have any webhosting to upload too.

If you could PM me with your addy I'll send the file asap.

I did a brief review of your scene today, you are using some objects that might be not supported for using as bones or as part of the hierarchy (when they are parent of bones) as rectangle or spline, these objects are used as parents in the skeleton hierarchy

You should try doing first the functional base skinned character, with only regular bones and testing that they are correct for Ogre use in every step, then you start adding other features needed by your animation
