I've made a 'space bullet' or 'pea' for my asteroids game spoof, it's basically a smal planar surface consisting of a single polygon that has a circular falloff into transparancy. The white 'pea' looks correctly, but when I used a duplicate of that material on the same texture only green (for ufo's) the result is a non-fallofy falloff- just a circle, like so:
