3ds + heightmap?

Hi guys,

I've been following the 3ds heightmap tutorial in the wiki:

I find this process very cumbersome and inaccurate (ie when the images is rendered from top viewport and then fixed in photoshop)

I'm wondering whether oFusion can export heightmaps from 3ds max file? Or any tips on creating heightmaps in 3ds.

I prefer to build the terrain using meshes over photoshop brushes...

Render to texture might work. Dont forget to use a planar uv map with uv 0/0 starting from one corner of the terrain and 1/1 beeing at the opposite corner of the terrain.

I already have a unwrap UVW to render the terrain greyscale based on height (ie verticle plane)

Can I add another UVW?
