Biped animation displacement.

Hello all,

i have the following problem.
*I want to export a rigged and animated model. *
The app I use: 3d max 9

When i rig and animate my model and preview it inside the ofusion viewport the animation looks completely displaced.
Its like the biped skeleton is rotated 180 degrees. So if i have an animation where a model is punching. Then his arm is going "backwards".
Now I seen some simillar posts with simillar problems. But the solutions dint help me.
I reset x-form and reset the transformations and scale.
Collapsed all modifiers.
Rotated the pivot.

Also there is another strange thing.
If i open up the ofusion window. It displays the model with displacement.
If i then close max and restart it (so it shows the window when i start max) It shows correctly. I can even update the viewport and it still shows correctly.

If I THEN try to export the animation with ofusion and update the viewport again then the animation looks displaced again.
Also the exported file looks distorted.

So im realy confused.

max file:

I will review the scene

What RenderSystem are you using for the preview viewport?

See this knowledgebase article about the animation being different after activating the preview viewport:

Animation Keyframes are modified after the preview viewport is activated

hey lioric,

Thanks for the reply.

unfortunatly this still doesnt help me.
I changed the viewport to open gl.
Restarted max.

deleted all animations.
made some new simple animations.
Enable the ofusion viewport. Where it still looks wrong.
Export it. and it also stil looks wrong.

I also tried to fix the original animation by using the set cusom tangent
option. But that dint change anyting either :(.

Any other suggestions that might help me?

Thanks

i made "some" progress.

I searched for some other exporters and: weissblau compiled an xml lexie version for max 9. so i tried that one. and that one does export the animations correctly.

Unfortunatly it doesnt store the animation names and frames.
But it looks like it messes up the uv's.

Might be usefull information for the ofusion exporter.

Lioric could you take a look again at the model and see if you can get it to
export corectly with ofusion?

thanks for the support

I have tested your scene file and your animated character is correctly exported and displayed in the preview viewport (tested in Pro version only)

If you are using the CE version, i suggest you to use the new CE version (will be released this month) as this will implement the cumulative updates and fixes

I've just finished re-boning my character, and I too am experiencing this issue. Is there no fix in sight?

Hey rluck,

in the meentime ive found a work around that workes sometimes
but not always. If you have max 8 avalible, rig the model in max 8 and then open it in max 9 do the animations in there then try to export it.

Though I havnt checked if the new version of ofusion is already avalible.
Maby that one already has a fix for it.

naw it isn't. I managed to export using Octopus, had to do some patching of its code, but it worked. Thanks for the tip though ^^.

I had the same displacement-problem. I deleted the skin-modifier. Then I reseted x-form and collapesd all to editable poly. After rigging with skin-modifier, all problems were solved.
