Hunting for a relief shader to use

The normal map tutorial is good, but anyone know how to make a relief shader? (Any hints)

I can't do the search for you, but I'd point you to the academic paper scene. They have some really neat stuff going on when you start looking through theses and research papers from things like SIGGRAPH. Nishita et al. are great.
