Hi, problem I'm afraid.
Nine times out of ten when I try to access the material editor (after creating an Ogre viewport), Max crashes and quits. It's quite literally a case of: load Max, create Ogre viewport, create box, hit 'm', crash.
I'm using Max 8 SP1, and the latest version of oFusion (same problem with an older one, too). I've tried Max with DirectX 8.1 and 9, and oFusion with both DirectX and OpenGL. I have a GeForce 6800, if that's relevant.

Do you mean that if you use the viewport all is right, but when you open the material editor then it crashes max?
Do you have any other material plugins?
Can you test on a fresh max installation or on another machine?
What happens if the the scene dont have any objects?

Thank you for the swift response.
Ok, I tried it on a machine with Max 8 (no SP1), and it seems to work fine. Other differences are: on the machine it crashes on, I have finalRender installed, plus a couple other material plugins. The gfx card on the working machine is an onboard one.

Its been reported that VRay and finalRender are compatible with oFusion
As you posted that the issue is when just opening the material editor, with no Ogre materials in it, it should not be the graphics chip
Can you try without those other material plugins?
SP1 was not tested, test updating to SP2 as was tested that it works correctly with it
You may want to try the new SP2. Allthough I seem to have discovered a crash bug using Max 8 SP2. Posted that in a seperate thread, and don't know if its just my system.
I have never gotten a problem with starting the material editor in ofusion, if that helps. And have been using it a couple of days with SP1 installed.

I've installed SP2 and removed all material plugins, but still getting the same problem, even when there are no objects in the scene. However, I notice that if I open the material editor before I create the Ogre viewport, then I can open it fine afterwards. So maybe it's an initialisation problem - Ogre interferes with the material editor's initialisation?

Do you have any maxscript extensions? or an av or other software running in the background?
Try updating your video drivers
This seeems to be related as how max manages memmory internally
Also try moving the oMaterial.dlm file to another folder not inside max, and see if the issue is still present

Sorry for the delayed reply. I reinstalled and it's working. I haven't reinstalled any other plugins yet, but if I do and it stops working again, I'll let you know.

Hi,
I'm having the some problem in Max 7. I've tested it on Max 8, and still in all casses, it shuts down without any notice.
I dont have any plugins installed, except for oFusion.

Did you tested all the recomendations posted in this thread?
Can you test on a fresh max installation?

Yes, I did all recommendations, except that I cant find oMaterial.dlm, only oMaterial.dlt, and removing it didnt solve the problem.
I have the latest oFusion plugin, latest drivers, and disabled my AV, but none worked.. (I dont know what are the MaxScript extensions, so I couldnt check on these)
Also, reinstalling Max didnt solve the problem..
It also crashes sometimes when I try to save, or when I load a saved file with the Ogre View turned on. Sometimes it crashes without a reason, after I click on any button, totally not related to oFusion!!
And when it crashes, it doesnt give any exception, like the standard Max (An error has occured, do you want to save, etc..), Max suddenly shuts down, and thats it.
Your help is highly appreciated.

Change the max video driver to OpenGL and test it
Do you have any old Ogre exporter installed?
You dont just need to reinstall max, but you need to test installing max in another new folder, see if its working, and then install oFusion in that new folder, so we can be sure that you dont have any other extension that is causing the issue
