When I create a scene according to the 1st tutorial. I right click the top left of the viewport, select ogre viewport. and get the message:

An Error has occured, the program will now close.

And blammo. there goes max 8
(i have tried no service pack, and sp2.. same result)

I'm on a sony vaio laptop with a radeon 9700 mobile.

Here is the bottom part of ogre.log

Update your video hardware with the latest drivers

Is there a way to bypass that requirement? Like influence decision when determining a pixel Format?

I have a new vaio laptop and there are no newer drivers than what it currently has, and they are not that outdated.

I can run the ogre samples just fine. Just not ofusion.

In the "Viewport settings" panel set the RenderSystem to Direct3D9

But on some specific machines using the Direct3D9 render system have some issues with global animation system

If you can, first test OpenGL changing the desktop resolution

What are the settings you select when running ogre applications?

It runs in d3d mode. However I can't get any textures or materials to work. They always render in white. I followed the tutorial all the way through and couldn't get anything to change.

I switched to 1024x768 and reverted to opengl drivers. However the same error occurred. :(

You should check with the another resolution depth, not with resolution size, i.e 24, 32 bits

What video driver your max installation is using?

OpenGL ATI Technologies Inc. version 2.0.5220 WinXP Release

I've tried the bit depth at 32 and 16.. still the same result.

Test using Direct3D driver for the max configuration and OpenGL for oFusion viewport
