Convex vs Triangle Shapes change update?

Hi, I was just wondering if stuff had changed with newer versions of physx, for example, I remember that for creating complex shapes it was recommended to divide it in several convex pieces to create a new compound. This was almost mandatory cause triangle shapes had to be static. is that still true? Cause I`m seeing very cool physx demos at "thegamecreators" that I feel are not suffering this.

Right now I'm doing a pinball game and I am spending a lot of time creating hundreds of tiny convex shapes for the game assets, so that only the floor and the borders have like 900 convex pieces... Is this an actual workflow for physx games?
