I downloaded all the physx files and nxogre files and I had a question..Do the folders where I install nxogre and physx matter ?

I currently have OgreSDK as a folder under C: and the nxogre website is telling me to have it in \dev\. Will it affect anything if i install physx to 'ageia technologies' folder and then nxogre in its own folder..in C drive ? I could just add their respective folders in Visual C++ express so it should be able to find its include, library etc files right ?

Not to much really, "/dev/" is just an example. You can put NxOgre in c: as well.

However since your Aegia PhysX folder is in a different one (which I assume is in Program Files) you'll have to adjust the include/linker folders in NxOgre and any of the tutorials you use. This is one of the reasons why I had it set like that.

However if your a little daring the CVS version now uses environmental variables so it doesn't matter where you put them.

I installed Aegia Physx in C:\Novodex...anything left to change ?

Yep, it should be called "PhysX" not "Novodex".

I tried compiling box on a plane tutorial and this is the error I got

Ok..although it compiled the tutorials last time there is still an issue. When I try to run the exe file it says im missing files like ogremain.dll then zlib1.dll and so on, one after another. I tried copying all the files it was asking for from the ogre directory into where I had the exe file but in the end it just gives an unrecoverable error and exits from the program. So I am uninstalling and installing everything over again. As per the tutorial I made a \dev folder put ogre in \dev\ogrenew and its compiling as we speak. I see a few warning but no errors yet(hopefully there are none). So after this what do I do ? Install physx in \dev\novodex or \dev\physx ? After all this do I still need to follow the instructions.txt file ? I dont know what was wrong last time with it not finding the dll files because I did copy them as per the txt file but maybe I screwed up somewhere..

UPDATE: I didnt use the cvs build for nxogre but following instructions for install from the nxogre website i'm back to square one again. Tutorials compile and everything is fine but wont run because of missing dlls. Even if I copy the dll's into the folder the application wont run because of some error :? Why is this hapenning ?

betajaen

It's just a mix up with DLL's.

Three things:

a) Compile NxOgre and anything that uses NxOgre in release, debug mode does not work.

b) Copy all of the DLL's from the Ogre samples directory into bin/release/

c) Copy all the DLL's from the PhysX directory(bin\win32\Nx*.dll and PhysXLoader.dll) into bin/release

[Edit]

Oh, make sure you have Ageia's SystemSoftware.exe installed. If in doubt run one of the tutorials through a DOS Window, it'll print out the last error before crashing.

I have started from scratch again...so far progess has been in the fact that last night I tried compiling ReferenceApp.dll from ogre and it wasnt hapenning but I got that nailed today. I am able to compile and run all the sample files in ogre.

Also the link you posted here yesterday regarding the getscenemanager issue did fix the problem but when I looked at the code for the function in the cvs files it wasnt the same as the link you gave me. All these are adding to my confusion even more.

Today the only thing I did different was set 3 custom environment variables from My Computer each for ogresdk folder, physx folder and nxogre folder.

I am trying to compile the cvs nxogre right now and Im getting an error again. This is the build log...

So what exactly is this error ?

I am going to try the cvs build next but then theres the issue of changing the code in the scenemanager functions in them. Do I change them as per the link you posted or as it is in the cvs build ?

a) That problem has been fixed in the CVS, it was a issue between changes between Azaroth and Dagon in Ogre.

b) It's no real error it compiled fine, so your directory structure works! But you need to make the directory in NxOgre/ called "bin" and in there "release" so it can copy the dll over for you.

Do a full compile again or just copy the nxOgre.dll (from NxOgre.lib/) into release, as well as the ogre dll's and the Nx*.dll and PhysXLoader.dll from PhysX, compile the first tutorial

As your using the CVS you'll find the media for the tutorials missing, they can be found at this post.

http://www.ogre3d.org/phpBB2addons/view ... 1697#11697

Copy make a folder called "media" in /bin/ and copy the contents of media in that, and copy resources.cfg into /bin/release/

Run NxTutorial101.exe and in theory it should work!

I compiled and ran tutorial 1 and when I get the Ogre Rendering Setup it doesnt let me choose Directx or Opengl...how do I get around that ?

betajaen

05-09-2006 21:12:52

a) Compile NxOgre and anything that uses NxOgre in release, debug mode does not work.

Your quicker than me lol I forgot it was in debug and so I was editing my post and you replied already damn.

EDIT: Everything is working fine now..I copied the plugins.cfg from the nxogre preview 3 build into my cvs folder /bin/release. I got the Rendering Subsystem options and after I ran the file it created its own ogre.cfg. So i guess everything is A-ok right now. Thanks for your help betajaen. Im pretty sure I wouldnt have gotten anywhere without you.

05-09-2006 21:37:20

Ah, copy plugins.cfg from the Ogre samples directory.
