OGRE 1.0.0 RC1 [Azathoth] Released!

It’s here! As promised, Release Candidate 1 of OGRE 1.0.0 is now available. This is a source release, and we request all existing OGRE users to upgrade and provide as much testing as you can in the next 2 weeks before we release the final.

Highlights in this release include the new and improved resource system, direct access to all hardware pixel buffers, HDR support, and lots more. See the ChangeLog for full details.

Ogre 1.0.0 (Azathoth) – the release plan

It’s coming.

Notwithstanding last-minute calamaties, Ogre 1.0.0 (Azathoth) will be in your hands within the next 7 days. This has been talked about on IRC, blogs, and the forums, but we’re now close enough that it’s official news, and I thought it was worth explaining the intended procedure.

We intend to release 1.0.0 RC1 as a source release only, just like previous releases. We will give this release candidate 2 weeks to ‘bed down’ in the community, longer if people have problems, although given the field testing that has already happened we’re not expecting any. If there are major changes (not anticipated), we may do a RC2, but otherwise we’ll progress directly to the 1.0.0 final, at which point we will make precompiled SDK releases available as well as the full source releases. The may take a little time to produce for all the platform / compiler combinations, but will follow the 1.0.0 final source as closely as we can manage.

Anyone obtaining CVS HEAD now will find the source very stable, although bear in mind that you will need to obtain and compile some additional dependencies yourself (e.g. CEGui).

We’re very excited about this, this is going to be big.

PyOgre precompiled SDK available

Clay has contributed a precompiled (Windows) version of the PyOgre addon project for download from his site. PyOgre lets you run OGRE directly from Python scripts.

You can find it in the newly created SDK Downloads area (and if you’re wondering, yes we will be providing core SDKs for 1.0.0 there in due course).

Gile[s] exporter

Walaber has contributed an exporter for the Gile[s] global illumination tool – that’s a tool which lights a scene realistically offline, calculating soft shadows and interreflections, and saving that information into lightmaps.

The source is available in CVS under ogreaddons/gilesexporter, and a binary version can be obtained from walabers site.

0.15.2 [Hastur] Maintenance Release!

It’s maintenance release time again everyone, this time a pretty significant bugfix / enhancement release for everyone on the stable Hastur version of Ogre. As is usual for maintenance releases, there are no interface breaking changes, but I’m sure that you’ll like the enhancements we managed to squeeze in as well as the bugfixes.

OGRE is now in Debian Unstable

fog sent word that his Debian packages for Ogre have now been accepted into Debian unstable, and so if you’re a Debian user you can now just ‘apt-get’ it. You will still need to retrieve the Cg toolkit from fog’s site since that hasn’t made it into unstable yet. Further details are available in this forum thread.

Thanks to fog for organising this!
