Consultants Numerique, a young European company formed in 2002, has just announced the first public release of Alpharis, an ‘Interactive and Visual Internet Knowledge Manager’. Alpharis uses OGRE and CEGUI, and is intended to be used for applications such as e-learning, interactive e-books, marketing presentations, and engineering collaboration.

We’ve just been made Sourceforge’s Project of the Month for March 2005! Thanks to Sourceforge for asking us, we’re very flattered – it all adds to the great coming-of-age that is OGRE’s transition to 1.0.0 🙂

A couple of updates today on related projects which have now been updated to 1.0.0:
- PyOgre SDK, the ready-to-go OGRE development environment for Python
- MeshViewer, the tool for quickly viewing OGRE .mesh files and their animations.
Both are available in the downloads area, enjoy. 🙂

We've just released the final 1.0.0 release of OGRE! You can find details of what has changed in the ChangeLog as per usual.
This is a major milestone for us, and one for which the achievement is
shared among a great many people. Thanks to everyone who helped make
this possible over the years, from your code contributions to your
assistance in the forums, from your clear bug reporting to your eye for
typos in the documentation – 1.0 simply could not have happened without
the help of the great community which has built up around OGRE.
This is the first release for which we're offering precompiled SDK
downloads. This means a self-installing package which doesn't require
you to build OGRE yourself. This will be convenient for many users, but
for experienced developers we do still recommend the source releases,
since they give you more flexibility and debugging information (and
they're a little smaller). Not all the platform / compiler combinations
have SDKs yet, more will be added over the coming days – if you don't
see yours, get the source release instead.
Head over to the Downloads Area now!

The previously ‘unofficial’ OGRE Wiki has been a great success over the last couple of months, so much so that it’s been given it’s stripes and is now official. If you bookmarked the wiki directly, please update your bookmarks to the new address in the link above.
Thanks to Antiarc for organising the wiki in the first place and thus convincing us that it was worth doing. The wiki is based on MediaWiki which in my opinion outshines any other by some margin, which has much to do with the OGRE wiki’s popularity I think.
For those who don’t know: a wiki is a collaborate web system where users can contribute and refine tips, tutorials and other such documentation easily.

Things have been quite busy with 1.0.0, but I wanted to catch up and mention a couple of projects using OGRE which have emerged from development:
- ShortHike is a ‘Space Settlement Guild’ which has grown out of Kai Backman’s successful Space Station Manager sim. ShortHike uses OGRE to render the Mars surface simulation.
- Overdrive is a futuristic, team-based, multiplayer bike combat game, set in a post-apocalyptic Paris. It was developed over the last year by 7 computer science students from Paris, France, at EPITECH (an IT school), and artwork is by students and professors of Creapole.
Well done to all concerned, and once again we’re glad to see OGRE being used in successful and frankly great looking projects!
