{mosimage}A significant update to the Maya exporter is now available, courtesy of bisco! Head over to the tools download area now to upgrade your version.

The enhancements include writing binary mesh and skeleton files directly instead of going via an intermediate XML file, direct support for polygonal meshes (no triangulation required), and support for morph and pose animation in addition to skeletal animation supported in previous versions. Full details of the new feature set can be found in the full text of this post. Big thanks to bisco for his continuing work on this exporter.

Geometry:
– polyonal meshes (no need to be
triangulated)
– vertex positions, normals, colours, texture
coordinates, bone assignements
– world / object coordinates
– choice of length unit
– multiple materials per mesh
– blend shapes (mesh poses)

Skeleton:
– multiple joint hierarchies
– position, orientation and scaling of all
joints

Animations:
– skeleton animation (translation, rotation and
scaling)
– vertex animation (morph targets)
– blend shape animation (pose
animation)

Materials (work in progress):
– lambert, phong, blinn
– layered textures
– place2Dtexture (except RepeatUV
attribute)

Extras (work in progress):
– particles, animation curves, cameras

Output
– mesh binary file
– skeleton binary file
– material script file
– particle xml file
– anim text
file (for anim curves)
– camera text file
