I thought it was time to cherry-pick a few goings on from the community forums and hilight them here on the main page. There’s always so much going on it’s difficult for even a regular visitor to keep up with it all, so here’s an executive summary of recent interesting events:
- GUI systems flood – seems like everyone’s making a UI system these days 😉 Recent project updates in this area include:
- Tools:
- MeshMagick from haffax and blakharaz is a command-line tool for batch altering meshes, including merging, realigning and many other operations
- Netherforce showed a nice video of their world editor in action
- FlowED is a tool which manipulates OSM files (as used by oFusion) and is aimed at Blitz3D users wanting to make the transition to Ogre but who don’t own 3DSMax/oFusion.
- Scene managers:
- Editable Terrain Manager from CABAListic allows in-engine deforming, splatting and lightmapping of terrain
- Overhang Terrain SceneManager from beaugard demonstrates real-time tunnelling and overhang creation
- Simple Paged Terrain from HexiDave is a wrap-around paging terrain system with a floating origin, editable terrain and libnoise-generated heightmaps
- Portal Connected Zone Manager – Chaster’s upcoming system of linking different SceneManagers together using portals
- Misc Libraries
- Ogre Magic 2D libary continues to grow, adding examples ported from Shockwave and BlitzMax
- PagedGeometry from JohnJ continues to improve, take a look at the recent screenshots
Apologies to everyone I’ve inevitably missed. As always, keep a weather eye on the Showcase forum for more.
