Community News

A few updates from the OGRE community at large:
  • bisco has taken over maintenance of the Maya exporter, and there are new releases of the exporter for both Maya 6.0 and Maya 6.5 in the downloads area. With any luck, a Maya 5.0 version will be available soon too for those of you yet to upgrade.
  • Nogredex, a binding to physics engine Novodex, is now available from ogreaddons and is being maintained by gfmrose. Nogredex was originally written by rocketman, but gfmrose's new version includes support for Ogre 1.0.x and triangle mesh support, among other things.
  • Open Physics Abstraction Layer (OPAL) is a high-level physics interface using ODE, and they have released 0.3.0 demonstrating rendering through OGRE.
Those are just a few highlights - for the full story just browse the forums!

Updated OGRE Goodies!

I've just performed a major update of the OGRE CafePress Store, where you can buy your essential OGRE-related goodies like T-Shirts, mugs, and mouse mats. All the merchandise has been updated with the new OGRE 1.0.x logo - the fashion conscious can now ensure they are not wearing "last release's line". Rest assured though, unlike football (soccer, if you will) teams we will not be changing our at strip every opportunity just to extract your money 😉

By popular demand there is an extended range of products; let us know if you'd like to see more.

OGRE v1.0.1 [Azathoth] Released!

The first maintenance release to the 1.0 [Azathoth] branch is now available. It's been about 6 weeks since the 1.0.0 final and we've fixed a fair number of bugs since then, and added quite a few new things, none of which are interface breaking. Major highlights in the latter category include support for Code::Blocks, and the first release of the official XSI mesh / animation exporter (made possible thanks to support from SoftImage). Full details of changes can be viewed in the full text of this posting.

So far the source releases are up, and the tools. Updated versions of the prebuilt SDKs will be uploaded over the next few days.

Stunt Playground screenshots

Once again, it's time for some impressive shots from projects out there in the community (the featured project area is getting crowded!). This time it's Stunt Playground from walaber, a build-em-up-and-knock-em-down sort of a game with a clever in-game editor. You place your props such as ramps, barrels, hoops etc, then drive around them like a mad thing. Includes a replay system so your friends will believe you!

Axiomatic Screenshots

I've just posted some new screenshots in the 'Featured Projects' area. This time it's Axiomatic, a space-shooter by Paul 'alphageek' Bridger which is looking extremely pretty indeed. Note that Axiomatic is in fact made with OGRE and not Axiom, despite the potentially confusing naming!
