{mosimage}It’s a little late, but following the re-branding of this site we’ve now updated the Official OGRE Merchandise Shop with the new style logo. As well as the usual shirts, mousemats and mugs we also have a new item – an appropriately Green T-Shirt. You can also pick other colours if you like.
The OGRE project makes a small profit out of each item purchased, and any funds earned will go towards the same causes listed on our donations page. It’s worth saying that even though CafePress are located in the US their postage rates to Europe are very reasonable so this should be suitable for everyone (plus you get to take advantage of the dollar exchange rate, which is very favourable right now). So if you want a way to display your proud engine allegiance on your chest (and confuse all your relatives) you know where to go.

{mosimage}We’re happy to announce another maintenance release for the current stable branch, v1.4 [Eihort]. The source releases and Visual Studio SDKs have been updated, and bisco has also made available updated Maya exporters for Windows, thanks to him for that. Other SDKs will follow as and when they become available. Please note that we are still looking for a new maintainer for the MingW platform, if you are a MingW user we’d be grateful if you could step forward.
Details of the changes in this release are available in the detail of this posting.

We haven’t been accepting donations for a little while, but today we re-opened the donations system for those who would like to contribute financially to the Ogre project. Primarily we like to encourage people to contribute their time most of all, in the forums or the wiki etc, but, If you’ve enjoyed using Ogre, or perhaps it’s helped you generate revenue of your own, this is a mechanism where you can assist us with covering our expenses and reaching new funding targets, should you wish to.

I thought it was time to cherry-pick a few goings on from the community forums and hilight them here on the main page. There’s always so much going on it’s difficult for even a regular visitor to keep up with it all, so here’s an executive summary of recent interesting events:
- GUI systems flood – seems like everyone’s making a UI system these days 😉 Recent project updates in this area include:
- Navi – uses the LLMozLib library to render HTML based GUIs
- BetaGUI 2 – betajaen’s overlay-based GUI system now has a new theme system using CSS styles
- QuickGUI is another overlay-based GUI system that concentrates on simplicity
- Tools:
- MeshMagick from haffax and blakharaz is a command-line tool for batch altering meshes, including merging, realigning and many other operations
- Netherforce showed a nice video of their world editor in action
- FlowED is a tool which manipulates OSM files (as used by oFusion) and is aimed at Blitz3D users wanting to make the transition to Ogre but who don’t own 3DSMax/oFusion.
- Scene managers:
- Misc Libraries
Apologies to everyone I’ve inevitably missed. As always, keep a weather eye on the Showcase forum for more.

{mosimage}It’s time for the first maintenance release to the new 1.4 (Eihort) stable branch. Details of what’s fixed in this release are contained in the full detail of this post, click the ‘Read more..’ link below for details. Source and VC++ SDK releases have been updated, along with the dependencies for VC8. Other SDKs (MingW, OSX) will be updated as they become available from their maintainers. We are still looking for a new MingW maintainer at this time, so if you use MingW and can spare some time every few weeks to build and test the SDK, please volunteer in the forums or mail the project lead.
Head over to the Downloads Page to grab the update.

{mosimage}It has been mentioned previously that as from OGRE v1.4.0, we intended to make an alternative license available for OGRE to assist those people for whom the LGPL was a barrier to adoption. Whilst the vast majority of people will continue to use OGRE under the LGPL, some users may be interested in obtaining a more lenient license, particulary if they wish to target other platforms covered by NDAs, or where there are other legal concerns. For this group of people we have made the OUL available, and as of today the full text of this license is now available online via that link. Please also read the Licensing FAQ which should answer most of your questions.
More details including pricing are available on request from licensing@ogre3d.org.
