The Python bindings have been in and out of stability over the last year or so, but now Baptiste has resurrected them in the form of ‘pyogre’ in the ‘ogreaddons’ CV module (snapshots of which are available daily from the Downloads Area). He’s using Pyste which should make it easier to keep the bindings up to date (the major problem in the past) and has already ported most of the demos, so well done to him.

:wumpus: has recently joined our exhalted ranks as a full Ogre developer. Those who frequent the forums know that his particular areas of expertise include the Gtk platform manager, and Linux issues in general, and he’s helped a lot with patch reviewing and generally assisting the Ogre community in the past. I’m sure he’ll carry on the good work and not let the power go to his head 😉

Sourceforge did some maintenance work yesterday which has caused problems with phpBB2. I’ve reported the issue and am waiting for them to come back to me. We’ll get the forums back up as soon as we can.

Yes, I’ve subjectively picked a few of what I consider to be some of the most interesting examples of work using Ogre from the community, and placed them in the Featured Projects Screenshots Area. New this time around are:
This is but a tiny sample of what’s going on in the community, there are lots of other great projects going on, and you can read about them every day in The OGRE Forums. Kudos!

It’s time again for me to cherry-pick a few news items of note from the community:
- Scott Ramsby and his team at the University of Washington have released 2 new games based on Ogre; Invasion (a shoot ’em up) and Head Honcho (a 3D Pac Man clone). Download page
- limpnode from The Agency has released a MinGW DevPak for Ogre 0.14. There is also a quick howto guide.
- Crazy Eddies GUI, which will be replacing our own inbuilt GUI in the next major version, is progressing apace, with it’s Ogre render target working nicely. See this thread for updates.

This weekend in Melbourne, Australia is the Free-Play Independent Game Developer Conference, and Ogre will be featuring in the Saturday afternoon session “Open Source and Low Cost Game Engines”. Kenny Sabir, an old hand at Ogre who has been away for a little while, will be doing the presenting and at least one of the new 0.14 demos will be shown there. Good luck Kenny!
