Blender 2.4 Support

A lot of you are getting justifiably excited about the new release of
Blender, but since the API changed in 2.40 our exporter has not been
working. Good news – nfz has just updated it so you can now export from
Blender 2.40 and you can get early access to it from CVS using this link.

OGRE on your PDA

GenericBum has just showcased his (and others) port of OGRE to the PocketPC platform; since the PocketPC includes no hardware 3D acceleration it runs over a software implementation of OpenGL ES. Looks like an interesting project, you can see screenshots of a couple of the (simpler!) OGRE demos running on a PDA in his forum post.

Whilst we officially support Windows, Linux and OSX, OGRE has been ported by 3rd parties to several other platforms, including FreeBSD and the XBox, although we cannot support or promote the latter due to legal issues. It has also been observed by some that OGRE would be particularly suited to being ported to the next gen consoles, which would be great although I suspect that once again legal issues would be the barrier, rather than technical hurdles. We'll continue making OGRE as portable as we can, and who knows where it'll turn up next.

Attacks on this site

Apologies for the occasionally slow response you've had from this site over the last few days; in the past few days there have been several attacks on the site, some distributed, some not. We're doing our best to squash these attacks as soon as we see them, and in the case of non-distributed attacks, IP addresses which originate these attacks are network banned and their ISPs are notified.

Let me just take this opportunity to warn people not to try to 'scrape' this site down to a local copy, especially not through poorly constructed spidering tools. This site is hosted on a dedicated machine, but it has finite resources and is normally very busy in any case. If any one IP is seen to be causing excessive load on the server for any reason (that means multiple hits per second over a sustained period – ie an automated tool and not a person), it will be banned without warning. You will lose access to the site completely, and you will have some serious explaining to do over email to get your IP unbanned. We will not tolerate people abusing the site and causing problems for other users.

Ankh wins awards and critical acclaim

{mosimage}Ankh,
the point-and-click adventure game by Deck13 which uses OGRE has been
making something of a storm in Germany, where it's been on general
release for a few weeks now (the English and French versions are due
for release in January, and we can't wait).

It's had a slew of great reviews from German magazines, both in
traditional print and online, and the team has just recently walked
away from the German Developer Awards 2005 with wins in 2 categories:
"Best Game" and "Best Soundtrack for In-Game Sound". Here's a  photo of the event.

The team have also released an Ankh music video (rendered in-game) following this success, you can download a large 23Mb version or a smaller 9Mb version (thanks to AdventureDot for hosting that, and for the English news!).

Our hearty congratulations to the Deck13 team for a job well done, we're glad OGRE could help you make such a great game.

XSI Exporter 1.0.6a

{mosimage}A new version of the XSI exporter (for v4.2 and v5.0) is now available for download from the Tools Section.
This version (1.0.6a) is functionally identical to the 1.0.6 version
released a week ago, but has been considerably optimised such that it
exports meshes about 15 times faster than before. For those of you with
large models, this is definitely worth the download.
