It's time for another maintenance release for those of you using the
stable 1.0.x branch of OGRE. Full details of bugfixes and non-interface
breaking changes included in this release are available in the full
text of this post; other highlights include support for Visual C++ 2005
and Softimage|XSI v5.0.
You can find the releases as usual in the downloads section – please
note that if you're using the Windows source release then you will also
need to update your dependencies; we provide 4 dependencies downloads
with this release, one for each of VC6, VC7.0, VC7.1 and VC8.0. You'll
also find 2 new prebuilt tools for Windows in this release from the
Addons projects, namely the Particle Editor and the CEGui Mesh Viewer.

2 frameworks based on OGRE have had updates recently, here's a few details:
- Yake v0.4
('Kestrel') has been released. Yake is a VR and game engine
incorporating OGRE for rendering, and integrates various other
libraries such as ODE/Novodex for physics, OpenAL for sound, and Lua
scripting. The new release features major enhancements to the vehicle
system and improved Linux support.
- Emma v0.4 has just been released (version number is a coincidence!). Emma
(Extensible Multi Media Architecture) is an open-source, modular,
extensible, dynamic framework for declarative authoring and display of
2D and 3D interactive multimedia. It uses Lua for scripting and OGRE
for rendering. In this release the Lua/C++ integration module 'Fusion'
has been split into it's own project (which may be of interest to those
needing a Lua interface), and Emma now uses the AntiGrain Geometry library for high quality 2D rendering.
Congrats to both teams on another milestone.

A couple of snippets of news from the community:
- David Geldreich contributed a command-line tool for converting
3DS files directly to OGRE .mesh, which you can use instead of
exporting directly from your modelling tool using our usual plugins if
you like; you can find it under ogreaddons/3ds2mesh
- The Fragfist project, which appears in our Featured Projects section, now has its own website at http://www.fragfist.com, where you can keep an eye on further developments

{mosimage}We're very excited to announce that the Featured Projects page has a new addition, Pacific Storm! I'm sure you'll agree it's an absolute beauty.
To quote from the Pacific Storm website (where you can find even more amazing shots together with several videos):
"Pacific Storm is a game about the war in the Pacific between
the U.S. and Japan. It has the elements of a global strategy, tactical game and
an arcade air simulator. Playing either for the United States or Imperial Japan,
you walk through a dramatic sequence of large-scale naval and air military operations.
The game covers the time from 1940 – 1948. As you play, you can develop new technologies,
build and deploy new weapon systems or even change history. Thanks to a smooth
and seamless combination of strategy, tactics and simulator, you are completely
free to take whatever strategic or tactical decisions you consider best or abandon
for a time all strategy and tactics and inhabit any of your units so as to take
part in the fighting personally."
We wish Lesta Studios the very best of luck with this, it's a fantastic showcase of what OGRE is capable of.
