We're very glad to announce that JianHua Xie, better known to you all
by his forum nick 'Genva', has now joined the core OGRE team. Genva has
been contributing some great patches to some of the most complex areas
of OGRE for some considerable time and his input has been invaluable,
so I doubt this appointment will come as a surprise to those of you who
have been around in the community for a while. His expertise is
certainly without doubt and will strengthen the core team still further
– I'm sure there are great things ahead.
I'd like to take this opportunity on behalf of the rest of the team to
thank Genva for all his great work so far, and welcome him to the team!

Apologies to those who are having problems downloading the latest
release, not all the Sourceforge mirrors are picking up our files
for some reason.
If you have problems, please pick the 'OPTUSnet' or 'Surfnet' mirrors, which
seem to be the only ones right now which have correctly picked up the
new release. I have an outstanding support request with Sourceforge
about this and we'll resolve it asap.

Time for another maintenance release – 1.0.5 is now out, and this time
the source releases, SDKs and the XSI exporter are affected. Full details of the changes included in
this release are available in the full detail of this post; as usual
there are no interface breaking changes in this release to maintain
compatibility with all applications using the Azathoth branch.
The plan is to keep releasing maintenance releases for Azathoth every 6
weeks (or thereabouts) provided there are useful things to distribute.
So far, there always is 😉
Note that
components not maintained by the core team (such as other exporters and
add-ons) are released on ther own schedules and are not necessarily
synchronised to OGRE releases – keep an eye out for community announcements, or in the forum for details.

The Official Ankh Site
is now up! For those who have been living under a rock, Ankh is a 3D
point-and-click adventure game made by Deck13, using OGRE as the
graphical part of their toolbox. Features great animation and spoonfuls
of dark humour, it's looking very reminiscent of the glory days of Lucasarts, and that's definitely a good thing.
We're looking forward to this one a great deal, it's due for
release very soon.
Update: Yet more Ankh shots are online now!

A little bit of interesting news from the OGRE community:
- We have a new add-on recently: OgreDotNet is a .Net wrapper for OGRE, run by Maleficus. Since
Axiom, the C# rewrite of OGRE became inactive earlier this year, this
will be a boon to .Net users since the wrapper has the benefit of being
more up to date with the latest OGRE changes. OgreDotNet can be found
in the ogreaddons CVS module, and it now has it's own forum. For instructions on how to get started, please see the OgreDotNet wiki page.
- bisco,
maintainer of the Maya exporter, is back in action and has released a
new versions for Maya 6, 6.5 and 7, check it out in the Tools Downloads. He has also included a particle system exporter from Bandures.

It's a day for 3rd party releases it seems! CrazyEddie has announced that CEGUI
0.4.0 has now been released, the major new feature being the ability to
define custom GUI skins entirely through XML rather than having to
write a custom 'look' DLL. There are also lots of other changes, see
the full news posting for details.
According to CE, OGRE users should be able to upgrade to CEGUI 0.4.0
with few, if any, code changes, since only people who defined custom
'looks' should be impacted by the changes.
Edit: I should have pointed out that you will need to be using
the source release of OGRE to upgrade CEGUI yourself, rather than a
prebuilt SDK.
