Community news

Just a couple of community news items; firstly, a couple of new projects using OGRE, namely:

  • Soccar – Soccer with cars, with support for online team games

  • Shadowruna ‘Distributed TableTop Online Role Playing Game Aid’, which is a new concept on me but sounds pretty interesting.

Also, cTh has released a binary version of his OGRE Mesh viewer / tweaker, which allows you to manipulate .mesh objects, view and alter .material scripts, view and asjust LOD information etc. You can find in the Useful Tools section of the links database.

New bump mapping shots

We’ve got more new screenshots for you, this time of the dot3 bumpmapping feature (thanks once again to cTh for his work on this). This per-pixel feature operates without the need for vertex or pixel shaders, and will operate on any card which supports cube mapping and dot3 blending operations. Of course, when we support Cg, which is planned for the very near future, more elements of this effect can be offloaded to GPU for increased performance, but this technique shows that you can achieve the same results as some pixel shader demos using standard fixed-function operations.

0.11.0 Released!

Apologies for the longer than usual delay between formal releases, but I think you’ll like the new version. 🙂 There are so many updates in this version, you’ll need to look at the full detail of this story to read them all.

You can of course grab eveything you need from the Downloads Area. Visual C++ users please note: you need to download the updated 3rd-party libraries from the Extras area as well as the updated source code. Enjoy!

Screenshots Reorganized and New Ones Added

I’ve moved to the screenshots over to a gallery setup, I think it makes for a nicer viewing experience. At the same time I’ve added screenshots from the recent BspCollision demo. Go check them out!

Downloads reorganised

I’ve reorganised the downloads area a little, you can now find the main releases in the “Source Releases / Stable Releases” category and the add-ons such as STLport and the VC 3rd-party libraries in “Source Releases / Extras”.

In addition I’ve introduced a nightly CVS snapshot release, for those who want the very latest but don’t want to use CVS. It’s in “Source Releases / Unstable CVS Snapshots”. I recommend moving to CVS if you download this more than once though!
