ATI donates Radeon hardware to OGRE

I just want to say a big thankyou to those nice people at ATI developer relations, who have very kindly sent us a couple of Radeon cards for us to test with. They will come in very handy, since the core team up to now has only had access to nVidia cards.

ATI were extremely forthcoming given that we are not a conventional developer outfit: they seem very accepting of open source developers, since they also donated hardware to CrystalSpace a while back. Kudos!

New project using OGRE: DIE

A new project has been added to our links page: DIE is a deathmatch car game using ODE for realistic physics and OGRE for graphics. This demo allows you to drive around a level, marvelling at the great physics and beautiful graphics. 🙂

DIE is developed on Linux, but this demo is so good, we’re hosting a Windows port here on the OGRE site (thanks to John Ardussi for doing this), you can get it from our demo download page.

Delft University using OGRE in project work

I’ve just been notified that over the next 2 months, the Computer Science faculty of Delft University of Technology (in the Netherlands) will be using OGRE in one of their 2nd-year courses, the idea being that students will use it to develop a full game whilst learning about computer graphics.

They have about 60 students, who will work in teams of 5 to produce their games by the end of May, after which time we’ll put up a link to their project site. We wish them luck, and look forward to seeing what they do with OGRE!

Patches galore

We’ve been lucky enough to receive a large number of patches this month which have ranged from useful tweaks and bugfixes to adding some significant new features. You can find them in CVS right now if you wish to try them out.
