The OGRE community just keeps growing: we’re about to top 6000 messages in the forums in just 5 months (that’s 1200 a month, or 40 a day, stats fans), and the amount of positive feedback we’ve been getting is fabulous. I’m tempted to set up a ‘quotes’ page where we can list all the great comments we’ve had, but I can’t help feeling that might be a bit self-indulgent. 🙂
Anyway, we welcome all this participation from all you OGRE users out there, and we’ll try our best to keep up with you!

Unfortunately there was a tiny problem with the 0.10.0 binary demos archive; an out of date .material file will cause you to get an error in the ‘Terrain’ demo about ‘Examples\TextureEffect4’ being missing.
I’m updating the archive now, but for those who have already downloaded it, you can grab the updated material file. Just save this in the ‘media’ subfolder (overwriting the one that’s there). Apologies for the error.

That’s right, it’s release time again. You can now get the 0.10.0 source snapshot and precompiled demos through the downloads page. Follow the links to the source snapshot or demos section depending on which one you want.
Changes in this release include major speed improvements for large scenes (1500+ objects), a new 3DS Max exporter script for skeletal animation, updates to the Python bindings, a new skeletal blending mode and lots more.
In addition, the precompiled demos archive now includes a copy of Bad Camel Gaming‘s ‘Solitaire’ for your enjoyment. If you want the source for this, you’ll have to go to his own page, but thanks to bad_camel for allowing us to redistribute this.

OGRE has had a geomipmapped terrain plugin for a little while now (thanks to janders), but since then quite a few people have been beavering away at their own terrain systems. They’re not quite ready for publication yet, but here’s a taster.

Hmm, our project links section is getting crowded these days! Exodus: Dark Passage is the latest addition to our growing community, having switched from CS to OGRE recently. It’s a story-driven 3D space simulation. Welcome one, welcome all.

Cth has just submitted a Direct3D9 compatible render system, and this is now in CVS. It’s still experimental at this stage, but do have a look if you’re interested.
I have not added it to the default Ogre.sln and Ogre.dsw projects yet, because I know that not everyone has obtained the DirectX 9 SDK yet. If you have and you want to play with it, simply add the project to your workspace, the project is in ogrenew\RenderSystems\Direct3D9\scripts\. Remember also to add RenderSystem_Direct3D9.dll to your plugins.cfg.
